On Monday, April 24, at 9:45 a.m., Cardinal Kevin Farrell announced the death of Pope Francis from the Casa Santa Marta with the words:
“Dear brothers and sisters, with profound sorrow, I wish to announce the death of our Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, Francis, Bishop of Rome, returned to his home. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and his Church. He taught us to live with love for religious values, especially the Gospel. Deeply grateful for his example as a true disciple of the Lord among the poorest and most disadvantaged, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of another Triune God.
The Pope was admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital on Friday, February 14, 2025, after suffering from bronchitis for several days.
Pope Francis’ medical condition gradually deteriorated, and his doctors diagnosed bilateral pneumonia on Tuesday, February 18.
After 38 days in the hospital, the late Pope returned to his Vatican residence at Casa Santa Marta to continue his recovery.
